Teach it well

Learning objective

Order steps, events, or routines. Name feelings, notice different viewpoints, and choose kind, safe responses.

Materials & preparation

  • One printed learner copy; keep the answer view separate when provided
  • Pre-cut pieces, or child-safe scissors with adult supervision
  • A clear surface for arranging the pieces
Model and teach
Think aloud through one example, including how you notice and correct a mistake. Then use this learner direction: Cut out the cards, then place the events in order. Offer a neutral everyday situation and discuss more than one feeling a person might have.
Support
Complete the first item together, highlight the key word or visual clue, then fade the prompt.
Stretch
Ask for an explanation using the topic words, then add one new example. Compare two valid examples and explain one meaningful similarity or difference.
Check for understanding
Ask the learner to retell the order and explain why one chosen step comes before another.
